No Official Craven County 24-Hour Release Feed
The official source sweep found no rolling 24-hour release page, downloadable daily list, booking-profile archive, or public filter that turns Craven's current roster into a same-day release report. The Craven Active Bookings table is expressly limited to current inmates housed. It excludes juveniles and federal inmates and says updates occur “as often as possible.” Its displayed Last Update is useful, but the county promises neither a fixed refresh interval nor any period during which a released booking stays online.
A no-match is not a 24-hour release. The person may have been released, transferred to NCDAC or another county, moved under federal or immigration authority, omitted by the roster rules, or affected by processing and data timing. Ask which event ended the Craven jail episode.
Bond Total and Booking Bond Court Date & Time are current-booking details. Neither says bond was posted or that out-processing finished. Sheriff Chip Hughes's office and the Craven County Detention Center remain the custodians to contact for the actual county movement record.
How to Check a Craven County Release Today
For a named person, preserve the evidence you find rather than repeatedly checking the roster without its timestamp. Then follow the custody path:
- Save the active-list Last Update. A matching row supports listed custody at that displayed time. If the name is absent, do not assign a release time or reason.
- Search NC SAVAN/VINELink. Match the full name or agency identifier and read the reporting facility. A released or out-of-custody event corroborates what that source reported but can still represent a transfer.

- Read the Craven court case. The eCourts Portal may show bond, dismissal, judgment, time served, jail credit, or a probation order. Court action supplies legal context but not the minute the jail door opened.

Request a Craven County Same-Day Release Sheet
The strongest local confirmation is the sheriff's existing booking/release sheet or equivalent movement extract. Call the jail or sheriff office to identify the proper custodian, or use Craven County's public-record request route. The county Public Information Officer accepts general requests at pio@cravencountync.gov, while court documents must be requested from the Clerk.
Supply the person's full name and aliases, date of birth if known, approximate booking and release dates, and booking number. Ask for the existing public fields maintained for booking date/time, actual release date/time, release or movement type, bond information, case number, releasing facility, receiving agency, and any hold or detainer indicator. Request an electronic uncertified copy and an advance fee estimate.
North Carolina Chapter 132 requires public copies as promptly as possible, but it does not create a universal same-day deadline. No fixed Craven release-sheet price was found. Ordinary uncertified copy charges are generally limited by G.S. 132-6.2 to actual reproduction cost unless another statute applies, with a possible reasonable special-service charge for extensive work. Juvenile, investigative, medical, victim, security, sealed, or otherwise confidential material may be withheld or redacted. Ask for the nonconfidential remainder instead of assuming every field is public.
Craven County Jail Releases Are Not the NCDAC Monthly List
NCDAC maintains an official Inmate Release Search covering state-prison releases in the current calendar year and two preceding years. It accepts a county, year, and month combination or all or part of a last name. Its county choices include Craven, Release County Not Reported, and Released To Other State(s).
This is not a 24-hour Craven jail list. “Release county” must not be assumed to mean county of conviction, the jail that once booked the person, or Craven Correctional Institution without supporting evidence. The tool is valuable when a Craven jail detainee was committed to state prison and later released by NCDAC. For a county-only bond or court release, the sheriff's release sheet remains the correct record.

Use it only after the custody history shows that NCDAC, rather than the county jail, controlled the release being researched.
Craven Sheriff's App Does Not Claim 24-Hour Releases
An iOS listing for the “Craven County Sheriff's Office,” developed by Get Apps 4 Less LLC, claims current-inmate searching along with news and push functions. Its published description does not claim a recent-release feed, a 24-hour archive, or mugshots. Without checking the live feature and its source data, a notification or current-inmate function should not be upgraded into a release record.
The official App Store listing can be useful for understanding what the publisher currently advertises. It does not replace the web roster's Last Update, the jail's movement sheet, or a VINELink status event. If an app alert appears, preserve its time and wording, then confirm which agency reported the change and whether the movement was release to the community or a transfer.
This distinction also prevents episodic news or push notices from becoming an invented daily feed. A dated sheriff announcement can document that announcement, but it is not proof that all people released during the same 24 hours were included. For a complete named-person check, return to the jail, court, and receiving-custodian sequence.
Craven Jail's First 24 Hours Property Rule
Craven publishes a local 24-hour rule, but it concerns personal property after booking rather than a release-list window. Effective April 1, 2023, property may be released to another person only during the first 24 hours after the initial booking. After that period, the property remains until the incarcerated person's own release. The detention page directs questions to Captain Smith at csmith@cravencountync.gov.
Keep the two clocks separate. The property window begins with initial booking and does not predict when release will happen. The county publishes no general exit time, release door, family waiting area, or holiday release routine. If the person has already left custody, ask the jail directly about its applicable property process rather than inferring a procedure from the active table.
Getting Home After a Craven County Release
The Craven Area Rural Transit System, or CARTS, is located at 1106 Clarks Road, beside the detention center at 1100 Clarks Road. CARTS is open to the public, accepts advance on-demand reservations at 252-636-4917, and advertises service from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Its office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday except specified holidays.
New Bern fixed routes are advertised at $1 per trip. No route map reviewed for this project proves a stop at the jail, so CARTS should be treated as an adjacent transportation contact and advance-planning option, not guaranteed pickup from a release door. Because the county also publishes no standard release hour, confirm timing with the jail and service availability directly before relying on a trip.
